In 2010, we had registration from 472 competitors
from 20 schools who have signed up for a total of more than 2150 entries.
This year, we do
it again, with 482 competitors from 22 schools.
Each year, the Purdue Ballroom Dance Classic at Purdue University
attracts collegiate and adult competitors
to W. Lafayette to challenge their
skills in front of our nationally ranked and certified judging panel.
Several
hundred spectators are expected to come witness the events, including sometimes the Mayor of West Lafayette, the President
of Purdue University, the Journal & Courier, and the Exponent.
Ballroom dancing is booming nationwide, and with the continued exposure of dancing in the
media, particularly the team's appearance on Dancing With The Stars, we expect the event to continue to grow.
For 2010, we expanded our event into a second ballroom
in the Union, to provide a staging area for the visiting teams.
Many competitors come to our comp to prepare for the collegiate dance nationals
which occur shortly after our event in Ohio, at which the Purdue team has consistently ranked 1st or 2nd place each year.
We continue to use the same electronic score keeping system which is used at the national
event in Ohio, to make results available almost immediately.
