Social Club

The goal of the Social Club is to teach its members the social aspects of ballroom dancing. Its primary focus is to prepare individuals/couples for dancing in the community and to have a good time.  A good place to get a brief exposure to dancing.

We try to start new dances frequently, so that if you must miss a couple classes, you wont really fall behind too much.  We encourage people to change dance partners frequently, if they like, so they can learn lead and follow skills.

Social club tends to teach American Style Ballroom Dancing.

Practices are held in the basement of University Church (just North of the Grant Street Parking Garage)

on Thursdays

Lesson times are given on the "Joining the Team" Page

Competition Team

The goal of the competition team is to teach its members specific techniques used in the sport of ballroom dancing. Its primary focus is to prepare individuals/couples for competitive dancing.

Comp team members social dance as well, and social membership is included, they just spend a little more energy worrying about whether they are doing it the "right" way.   In class we cover a lot more technique, especially those things that make one dancer look better than another dancer.

We also have the advantage of more class time.  We still encourage changing partners frequently, at first, but eventually people try to find partners for upcoming events.  As a team, we attend competitions at nearby colleges, where members compete against others with similar amounts of experience.

Our big comp road trip is the Ohio Star Ball, a competition where the Pros come to establish their position for the year.  This comp regularly appears on PBS. In fact, they filmed the America's Ballroom Challenge there in 2006.

Comp team focuses on International Style Ballroom Dance, with "some" brief exposure to American Style.

Practices are held in the Stewart Center or the Union according to the calendar.

on Mondays and Wednesdays
